US Dollars (USD) to Satoshi (SATS) Converter

Enter an amount in any of the fields below to instantly see the corresponding values in the other units. This converter uses the latest Bitcoin price and the fact that one bitcoin equals 100 million satoshis to perform the calculations.

Use the USD to SATS converter tool above to calculate how many satoshis are in your USD balance, or how much USD your satoshis are worth. You can also calculate satoshi to BTC.

satoshi, or “sat”, is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, named in honor of its creator Satoshi Nakamoto, who introduced Bitcoin to the world through the 2008 Bitcoin white paper. Just as one U.S. dollar divides into 100 cents, one Bitcoin divides into 100 million satoshis. That means 1 sat = 0.00000001 BTC. This level of divisibility ensures that Bitcoin can be used by anyone, anywhere, regardless of how high its price rises over time.

When Bitcoin first launched, each coin was worth only a few cents. But as adoption and demand grew, the value of a single BTC soared into the tens of thousands of dollars. Nakamoto foresaw this need for accessibility and built Bitcoin with extreme precision so that even a fraction, or a few thousand sats, could represent meaningful value. Instead of saying 0.00005 BTC, it’s much easier to say 5,000 sats, especially for small purchases or payments.

In today’s Bitcoin economy, sats are essential to everyday use. On the Lightning Network, payments can be sent instantly and nearly for free using satoshis, ideal for buying coffee, tipping content creators, or making micropayments online. Many apps now display balances in sats, making Bitcoin feel more intuitive and spendable.

Each satoshi carries the same properties as a full Bitcoin, scarcity, portability, and independence from central control. Whether you hold one sat or one million, you’re participating in the same open financial network that’s redefining money in the digital age.
