A satoshi, or “sat”, is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, named in honor of its creator Satoshi Nakamoto, who introduced Bitcoin to the world through the 2008 Bitcoin white paper. Just as one U.S. dollar divides into 100 cents, one Bitcoin divides into 100 million satoshis. That means 1 sat = 0.00000001 BTC.
